Lao Tzu says humility is the ability to serve in whatever capacity and in whatever role, not only that we decide and determine, but that is open to us.
He suggests we create those roles and openings, that humility is to know we are an instrument of Love, and in that heart and body commitment sometimes we are lead to service not exactly as glamorous, rich or fulfilling as we hoped.
He says the reward of service is the service itself, the willingness of our being to extend our self to others realizing that in that we are simply extending our self to All.
